Violence Is Preventable (VIP)

About the Program

The Violence Is Preventable workshops are school-based, age-appropriate sessions designed to help children and youth recognize unhealthy behaviours, build skills for respectful relationships, and understand how to seek help when they or others are unsafe. Delivered by trained outreach and prevention educators, these workshops use discussion, activities, and scenario-based learning to explore topics such as boundaries, empathy, bullying, consent, digital safety, and healthy conflict. VIP workshops are offered in elementary and secondary schools across the region and are adapted to each grade level in partnership with teachers and school counsellors. The goal is to increase awareness, reduce stigma around help-seeking, and strengthen students’ capacity to prevent violence in their peer groups, families, and communities. Healthy Relationships The Healthy Relationships workshops provide students with practical tools to build respectful, equitable, and emotionally safe relationships with peers, family members, and dating partners. Facilitators guide youth through interactive discussions on communication skills, consent, emotional regulation, boundary-setting, conflict resolution, and recognizing early warning signs of unhealthy or controlling behaviour. Workshops are tailored to grade level and developmental stage, ensuring content is accessible, culturally sensitive, and inclusive of diverse identities and relationship experiences. By strengthening social-emotional skills and promoting positive relationship norms, the program helps reduce interpersonal violence and supports healthier school communities.
